2015 Outstanding Contribution to EMS Health and Safety

Blue Ridge Crisis Intervention Team

blue_ridge_citThe 2015 recipient of the Outstanding Contribution to Health and Safety award is the Blue Ridge Crisis Intervention Team.  This group was officially formed in April of 2009 through a collaborative agreement between Valley Community Services Board (VCSB) and law enforcement agencies within the VCSB service area.

The mission of this group is to improve the system wide response to mental health needs within our local community.  This mission is accomplished through programmatic focus on three primary goals:

  • improving law enforcement response to individuals experiencing mental health related crisis events;
  • facilitating access to necessary community based mental health services for those individuals, and
  • diversion of individuals with mental illness away from the criminal justice system and into mental health treatment services, as appropriate.

The Blue Ridge Crisis Intervention Team partners with over 8 law enforcement agencies, correctional facilities and hospitals—many of which are first response agencies that work hand-in-hand with our regional EMS agencies when they encounter individuals experiencing mental health related crisis.

CSEMS is proud to present the Blue Ridge Crisis Intervention Team with the 2015 Outstanding Contribution to Health and Safety award for their dedication and service to assisting first response agencies in dealing with individuals experiencing mental health related crisis events in our region.
