Changes in Pearson VUE Testing; April 30, 2020 – New Location Available

In 2013, the Central Shenandoah EMS Council received approval to open the Pearson VUE Testing Center, offering the National Registry of EMT’s exams at all certification levels. At the time, there were no options for testing in the region, and CSEMS was proud to offer this service to the EMS Community.

Over the years, additional testing centers have opened throughout the state, offering increased opportunities for testing. Within the last year, Valley Career and Technical Center received authorization to conduct National Registry exams, and has informed us that they will be able to increase their testing schedule in the coming months. We are excited to see this resource available to the community, and are supportive of this move.

New Schedule Available Offering Additional Days and Testing Hours

As such, the CSEMS board and staff have been considering priorities for the regional Council, as we continue the restructuring as a regional Office of EMS. After careful review of the testing volume for the region, as well as the close proximity of the new testing center in Fishersville, we have decided to discontinue Person VUE testing at the CSEMS location as of April 30, 2020. The Pearson VUE contract requires a minimum threshold of testers to receive proctor reimbursement. With two testing centers in such close proximity, the CSEMS site has increasingly fallen below that requirement, indicating that the need for us to provide this service no longer exists.

CSEMS Discontinuing Duplicate Efforts and Focusing on New Resources

We will continue to monitor access to NREMT testing, in order to assure the needs of the EMS system are being met. We believe it is in keeping with our mission to focus our resources on areas of greatest need within the EMS system. Discontinuing testing that is now readily available in the region will allow us to transition our focus to other critical needs of the EMS system, such as quality improvement, system planning, technical assistance, and agency support. We appreciate the support from all of our partner agencies, and look forward to continuing to serve the needs of the EMS Community.

The scheduling process for NREMT exam testing has not changed. Testers still register and schedule testing at
