COVID-19 – Virginia Office of EMS Taking Proactive Actions Supporting EMS Operations

Pursuant to Emergency Order 51, the Virginia Office of EMS is taking proactive actions to reduce the spread of COVID-19. The following actions will be taken to support EMS operations throughout the commonwealth:

PPE Supplies

  • PPE supplies are in high demand for EMS agencies and healthcare organizations. The Virginia Office of EMS is working with suppliers to obtain PPE supplies, and will notify agencies through the regional councils as more information becomes available. Some hospitals have suspended restocking of PPE and medical supplies to EMS agencies. As EMS agencies are aware of these directives, please notify CSEMS at csems@vaems.org so we can track demand and shortages. We will maintain contact with the main OEMS office to track these situations and respond with supplies accordingly when they are available. We have limited ability to support N95 mask fit testing by agency request. Please contact csems@vaems.org if you need assistance with testing providers.

VA OEMS Launching Coronavirus Website

The Office of EMS has launched a webpage specifically for Coronavirus providing the latest information. Continue to monitor www.vdh.virginia.gov/coronavirus and stay informed.

Email Communication Encouraged As Staff Transitions to Telework

  • We would encourage all personnel needing to contact the CSEMS regional office or the Virginia Office of EMS central office to make contact via email. Central and regional offices will be implementing telework processes for many staff, and services will be limited during this time. All in-person meetings are being canceled. When possible, regional meetings will be held via webinar.
  • CSEMS Staff will be transitioning to telework where possible. We will continue to answer phones remotely, and will be responding to email and maintaining our website and social media sites to keep stakeholders informed.
