Edu-Net To Be Shut Down on May 31, 2017

To the CSEMS Community,

In early April, the Council was notified by TargetSolutions—the vendor who hosts Edu-Net/CentreLearn for the Council—that Central Shenandoah EMS Council is the last customer using their legacy learning management system (LMS) platform.

Council staff discussed several options for transitioning Edu-Net off of the legacy CentreLearn Solutions platform onto the current version of TargetSolutions product, however during this call, two things became apparent:

  • TargetSolutions new product is not designed to be a Learning Management System, but is instead more of an employee records management and training management system;
  • This new product will not allow a 3rd parties—like the CSEMS to report continuing education (CE) credits directly to the Office of EMS for seamless record keeping.

These two factors alone made the option of transitioning to TargetSolutions unfeasible.

Effective June 1, 2017, TargetSolutions will sunset Edu-Net/CentreLearn and terminate our contract for services.  As of this date, Edu-Net will no longer be available to you.

We have identified and are in the process of implementing a new LMS as a replacement for Edu-Net, however there is no guarantee that we will have the replacement system up and ready for use on June 1, 2017.

In the meantime, I would suggest the following actions for you:

  • If you have not already completed the recently posted 2017 Local Protocol Curriculum, you should do your best to complete this prior to May 31, 2017.
  • If there are training records in your account which you would like to retain, please make sure you print them off before May 31, 2017.
  • If there are certificates from completed classes that you would like to maintain for your records, please download and print those before the system is turned off on May 31, 2017.

Please keep in mind that once TargetSolutions turns off our access to their legacy CentreLearn system the following impacts will be felt:

  • Access to all existing training records and certificates will be lost.
  • There will be no conversion of existing data from Edu-Net to our new LMS.
  • There will be no conversion of old (legacy) training programs from Edu-Net over to the new LMS.
  • EMS Providers will lose the ability to complete Virginia Office of EMS EMSAT programming through Edu-Net.  Providers who desire continued access to EMSAT programming will be required to establish a free account with TargetSolutions by following the procedure currently established by the Virginia Office of EMS which can be found at the following link: http://www.vdh.virginia.gov/emergency-medical-services/new-emsat-ce-free-on-centrelearn/

We understand the impact that this change will have on you.  We did our best to negotiate and retain access to CentreLearn, however TargetSolutions was very clear that they no longer desired to maintain this legacy system. TargetSolutions be sunsetting the CentreLearn Solutions platform on May 31, 2017.

It is my intention to keep each of you updated over the next several weeks and months as we transition to a new Learning Management System platform.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Thank you,

Mandi McComas
