The Central Shenandoah EMS Council presents an accredited Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification program.  The program designed to train an individual to function independently in a medical emergency. This course provides the basic knowledge and skills needed to deliver Basic Life Support (BLS) care and is required to progress to more advanced levels of prehospital patient care. The course requires a minimum of 144 hours of classroom and skills instruction and 24 hours of Clinical/Field rotations for a total of 156 hours of training. Virginia certification requires successful completion of a standardized cognitive and psychomotor skills examination. This course is designed to train individuals to serve as a vital link in the chain of the health care team. This includes all skills necessary to provide emergency medical care as an attendant-in-charge with a basic life support ambulance service or other specialized rescue service.


  • CPR certification required. Specific CPR requirements are listed in the application information packet.  This program will conduct mandatory CPR training on Saturday, May 5, 2018 from 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM at the CSEMS Training Center in Staunton, VA.  Attendance is required by all students. See the Application Packet for exceptions.

Applicants must thoroughly read the EMT Information Packet prior to completing the online the online registration below. You are encouraged to email or call the program director to discuss any questions you have about the information covered in the Information packet.


Please read carefully… to apply for the EMT program, complete the application form below.  Once the application form is received, you will be contacted by an academic advisor who will provide you with additional information on the program, answer any questions you may have and provide an invoice for the program tuition.  Your registration for the program will not be complete and confirmed until the tuition is paid in full. 


  • Affiliated Tuition: $500 (Affiliated Tuition – See page 7 of the Information Packet for eligibility)
  • Non-Affiliated Tuition: $800 (Non-Affiliated Tuition – See page 7 of the Information Packet for details)
