The Central Shenandoah EMS Council is proud to announce an online accredited Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification program commencing in Spring, 2019.  The program is designed to train an individual to function independently in a medical emergency. This course provides the basic knowledge and skills needed to deliver Basic Life Support (BLS) care and is required to progress to more advanced levels of prehospital patient care. The course requires participation in an online classroom, 48 hours of mandatory hands-on skill training at the training center in Staunton and a minimum of 24 hours of field internship to achieve the minimum number of patient contacts.  Virginia certification requires successful completion of a standardized cognitive and psychomotor skills examination. This course is designed to train individuals to serve as a vital link in the chain of the health care team. This includes all skills necessary to provide emergency medical care as an attendant-in-charge with a basic life support ambulance service or other specialized rescue service.


Integrated Labs Version

The Integrated Lab course offers mandatory practical lab sessions conducted throughout the program on Monday evenings. The lab sessions are conducted at the CSEMS Training Center in Staunton, VA from 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm on the following dates: February 4, 11, 18, 25, March 4, 11, 18, 25, April 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, and May 6 and 13. The psychomotor examination will be conducted May 15, 2019. A mandatory online orientation will be conducted via a webinar from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm on Tuesday, January 29, 2019.



CPR certification required prior to orientation webinar.

  • Specific CPR requirements are listed in the application information packet. This program will conduct mandatory CPR training on Friday, January 25, 2019 from 5:30 PM – 10:00 PM at the CSEMS Training Center in Staunton, VA. Attendance is required by all students. See the Application Packet for exceptions.
  • Applicants that require CPR certification prior to class are advised to make every effort to be available for this class. In the event it is not possible to attend this class, CSEMS regularly offers AHA BLS CPR classes. You can browse upcoming classes here and register for one of those an alternative. The AHA offers an online-hybrid BLS class that requires an in-person skill verification, which CSEMS regularly offers. For more information about the online-hybrid BLS class, click here. Please read carefully… To apply for the EMT program, complete the application form below.  Following submission of the registration form, you will be contacted by a faculty member who will provide you with additional information on the program, answer any questions you may have, and provide an invoice for the program tuition. Your registration for the program will not be complete and confirmed until the tuition is paid in full.

  • Affiliated Tuition: $500 (Affiliated Tuition – See the Information Packet for eligibility)
  • Non-Affiliated Tuition: $800 (Non-Affiliated Tuition – All invoices initially reflect this rate. Information about requesting the affiliated tuition rate will be provided after your online registration is received).



You are registering for the ONLINE Emergency Medical Technician program. This program is conducted through an online Learning Management System and other web-based applications with in-person skill labs at the CSEMS Council Training Center.
