The Heartsaver Instructor Course is a blended learning course consisting of an online training and a classroom skills portion.

Instructor Candidates must first complete the registration process.  Once registration is completed and all requested documents have been received.  Instructor Candidate will receive directions about the online portion of class and the classroom portion.  After the classroom portion, the instructor candidate must be monitored while teaching their first class before they are released to teach on their own.


  • Have Proficient Heartsaver First Aid, CPR and AED Provider Skills
  • Hold current AHA Heartsaver First Aid, CPR and AED Card   (you must submit a copy of your AHA Heartsaver FA CPR card upon registration to Laurie Cook
  • Instructor Potential (IP)   (must be granted by Training Center Faculty)
    IP Skills Sessions will be conducted on the following dates: September 6, at 4:00pm, September 13, at 4:00pm, September 26, at 4:00pm at CSEMS contact Laurie Cook to schedule an appointment. If this is not completed by February 22 you will not have access to the Instructor Materials.
  • Alignment with an AHA Training Center (obtainable through IP session)
  • Complete the AHA Instructor Candidate Form (see link below) and submit to Laurie Cook

Course cost: $375.00 (must be received to complete registration)

Cancellation/ Refund Policy:

Registration is on a first come, first serve basis.  Cancellation fee of $75.00 will be charged to the participant.  No refunds will be issued to applicants withdrawing after September 26, 2018.  There will no refund for no shows.

Course Materials:

Course materials are available from the Central Shenandoah EMS Office as registration forms are received and approved.  All materials must be picked up at CSEMS, no materials will be mailed.

Special Needs:

The 1990 American Disabilities Act requires that all individuals, regardless of their disabilities, have equal access.  The Central Shenandoah EMS Council is pleased to assist participants with special needs.  Requests need to be made in writing at least 14 working days before the course.
