CSEMS is offering EMS Scholarship Workshops for prospective EMS students and instructors. Click to register.

Students, instructors, and agency leadership are invited to register and attend a CSEMS Scholarship Workshop.

The workshop will provide:

  • Information for students including eligibility, award structure, deadlines, and application guidance
  • Information for instructors including preparation for assisting students, course planning considerations, and overview of EMSSP forms
  • Information for agency leaders including agency role in assisting providers and agency responsibilities
  • FAQs
  • Assistance with the application and narrative review

Applicants, for the best workshop experience, please have the following application items with you:

All Applicants

  • Laptop or other web-connected device
  • Driver’s License (any state) or other government issued photo ID showing DOB
  • CPR certification (if currently certified)
  • Your social security number
  • Names of two references (along with their preferred email addresses)
  • Proof of residency
  • For military applicants, military service records
  • Virginia EMS certification number
  • EMS program contact information
  • EMS instructor name, contact information, and certification number
  • If receiving additional financial support towards this EMS certification program, any records or documents detailing this support
  • For college student applicants (all of the above, plus the following)

Current College Students

  • Proof of enrollment
  • Your Financial Aid Officer’s Name and email address

Narrative Summary (Essay)

Applicants are required to explain, in 1000 words or less:

  • The significance of the EMS Scholarship towards EMS goals
  • School / community activities and skill sets pertinent to the EMS profession
  • Consideration for professional practice in a Medically-Underserved Area in Virginia after gaining certification
  • Career Objective – What you anticipate to accomplish or career objectives
  • Current Competencies and Potential Growth – How the program will help build on your current competencies
  • Leadership Capabilities and Experience – Cite leadership capabilities and describe your leadership experience(s).
  • Describe your interest and willingness to work in Virginia

Questions regarding the essay will be addressed or collected and referred to the Virginia Office of EMS. Bring a prepared draft or outline to the workshop if you would like it reviewed prior to submitting.


Applicant Eligibility

  • Must be a Virginia resident (college students enrolled in Virginia colleges and military service members are excluded from this requirement; however, must provide sufficient documentation).
  • Must be enrolled in a Virginia Office of EMS-approved EMS initial certification or advanced certification program.   CSEMS Spring 2018 Class Registration COMING SOON
  • The program and/or instructor must be at or above the 16th percentile (to verify your program meets this requirement, click here).    CSEMS = Eligible
  • The program and/or instructor may not have a current Virginia Office of EMS-imposed Enforcement Action.   CSEMS = Eligible
  • Only completed applications will be evaluated for an award.


Eligible Award Amounts

Award reflects the amount awarded for the entire program for which the applicant is enrolled. Each scholarship may award up to:

Advanced EMT (AEMT) $619
Intermediate $1,176
Paramedic $2,166
*Special Award

(current Intermediates enrolled in a Paramedic program)



Awardee Obligations

If awarded, scholarship recipients must agree to fulfill the following:

  • Report any changes regarding contact information, enrollment status, and course progression.
  • Successfully complete the program for which they applied.
  • Earn certification at the level for which the scholarship was awarded.
  • Affiliate with a Virginia agency (either career or volunteer).

Application Cycles

Online applications are accepted during the periods shown below. The current application cycle opened on October 2, 2017. The deadline to apply is November 30, 2017. After this date, no applications will be accepted until the next application cycle.
